I'll be doing some solo guitar and voice gigs again in the next couple of weeks. So, if you enjoy this bossa-nova side of life, it is the time to check it out. Please look at the "Shows" page for more info.

I'll also be playing piano with Brazilian Baritone Claudio Mascarenhas at the Regina Opera on Oct. 30th in Brooklyn. We will be doing Ueremen, a song from Tamandua, my Brazilian Opera.

Claudio is an old friend and musical partner, also a rising star in the NY opera scene, with strong ties to the Regina Opera and Opera Ebony. I am very happy that I'll be doing this "world premiere" with him.

Hello, life has been really hectic, so it's taken a while to write this update. now i have a thousand things to tell, it's hard to know where to start.

In Rio I recorded a new CD, live with the Quarteto: Jimmy Cruz on bass, Otavio Garcia on Drum-set, Fernando Corona on piano. I am very happy about the sound. For some time I had been willing to record something like this, warm, acoustic, no overdubs, quite Bossa-Nova, Brazilian-Jazz... We are currently negotiating a release, so you'll have to wait to listen. It'll be the first release I'll sign as Joao MacDowell, my real name. ;)

I also produced a beautiful track with Marcelo Santana. It's called Copacabana, and i've been listening to it whenever I miss Brazil. It was a moment of great inspiration, hanging out with him and Marcelo Massacre, my new friends from Recife, we did a terrific concert together as MMDub. oh, how i miss Recife, Beco da Fome...

Then I went to Brasilia, where I worked with my sister, setting up a system for video-art and electronic events. The opening night of the system was at the party after the Kaftewerk concert in Brasilia, with huge Karftgirls in the modern buildings of the city all over the screens, neat. I'm proud of my sister.

Then I came back to the USA. In Philly I performed with Helena Espval on cello, Jim Hamilton on drum-set and Tom Spiker on bass. Now I'm in NY again, catching up with life. I'm also recording with English producer Paul Atkinson; our first track together is totally Drum n Bass-Samba, great for dancing.

let's hope i don't stay so absent from the internet now. thanks for everyone who's been coming to the shows and the ones who kept complaining about the lack of news here.

There are many opportunities comming up to hear me in Rio de Janeiro in the next weeks. (Please check the Shows page.)

May 20th, 04

I am in Rio de Janeiro again, It's so good to be back in my country.

Familiar smiles and friendly faces salute me wherever I go.

I haven't been able to jump into the sea yet, it's raining and raining... the sweet winter of the tropics...

March 1st, 04

Hi, Now I live in Philadelphia, it's a good place to have a home. There's an interesting artist and music scene here. I like the rhythm of the city and I still go to NY every two weeks.

I am very happy about the band I have here, with Swedish cellist Helena Espval (Silent Movie Orchestra, The Espers), and Jim Hamilton (Boys II Men, Gerald Allston) on percussion.

I've been writing a lot of new music recently, there's material for 3 new albuns in my hands... what can I do?

I've also been doing a lot of studio work, just finished a house mix for Dj Lucas, featuring Xande Cruz on percussion, and did a few songs for Jesus Garcia, star of Bas Lohrman's La Boheme on Broadway. It's the US, you know, I have to work.

Sept 24, 03

I am back in NewYork.
The city bears millions of dreams,
millions of nightmares,
and mine is just another one among them.

I'll be performing at the Orange Bear
Saturday, Sept 27, 11pm.
Note that they are giving me better slots
every time I come back... good
Still just 5$ cover.

California was a place of warm nights and warm hearts.
Many sweet memories
of the good friends I made there

GREAT NEWS!

JKAU now has a CD distributor for the new material. NET RECORDS can be contacted to get the latest CD. I appreciate all the support my fans, friends and family have giving me on this project.

Kau has arrived in new York and will hopefully be booking some shows on the east coast. There lots of people to meet, think positive! A tentative date on the west coast has been established hopefully on a group project with some of the local Brazilian talent.

MAY 18, 03

JKau will be on Brazilian National television, TVE, next Saturday, the 24th, at 7:00 pm; and Sunday, the 25th, at 1:00pm.
Some of the folks in the USA might be able to catch it through cable tv. The shooting took place in JKau's home studio in Copacabana, where he improvised, sang some of his songs and talked about life, music and his new album, to be released in June in Brazil.

ANIME: WEBSITE FIXES: The Portguese news scroll should be fixed on the mac for your reading pleasure. To download audio files you will need to Right Click and Save Target As. The problem with just clicking on them depends on what the default mp3 client is set to in your browser. Most browsers are set to an older version of quicktime. Unfortunately that older version is the causing the audio file to sound like crap. For eveything to reliably download for everybody, just use the Right Click option. Thank You, enjoy

After six months of touring in the US and Brazil, I am finally back to Rio. I just had a few more days in the studio, doing some final touch ups. Now the new Cd is finished, I hope you will like it. It will soon be available for purchase.

Feb 17, 03

I have finally drafted a portugese version of the newest press release. You can view it in the media section of the site. I I am hoping that it will be easier now to create an english version now that i have something to work from. I have begun booking a few shows so keep your eyes on the show listings. I would love to see some of those that view this site at a live performance.

Feb 1, 03

At the request of fans a lyrics section has been added in the media area with many of the prose from the new album. Enjoy! I have also had requests for more music. I would like to recommend that those that are craving more of my music to go check out mp3.com and tronos.com to download more selections. Thank you so much for all your support.

News came to me via email on this grand day!

I sit at my sisters house, enjoying that I have finally returned to my home land. Ahhhh... real warmth. I go to check my email and what do i find out? One of my tracks has been selected for an MTV Pop/Rock Industry Opportunity. I think to myself..we shall see where it leads us, we shall see where it leads us.

I have been getting rave reviews with the look of the new web site. I again thank anime and all her gracious help in maintaining my web presence. I have had many requests for some kind of guest book so visiters can leave commentary. I have word from anime that she is working on it currently and will have something up as soon as she can.

DEC 02

With the new days comes a time for change. With the shortening of the joaokahuna name, the beginning promotion of a new CD the birth of a modified if not matured identity, JKau.com is live. (Insert crowd roaring!) The new site hopes to be easier for my sorry non html loven self to update.

Future dates for a new tour will soon be announced!

Be sure to check out the inteveiw with Entropreneur Entertainment

Interview with DTrump and BEHIND THE BLING TV (more to come soon)
